Sedna acquires Dataloy Systems to unlock seamless execution in Global Trade

Acquisition enhances Sedna's product suite with best-in-class Voyage Management Software, expanding intelligent workflows across the full trade lifecycle.

Bergen, Norway / London, UK– Jul 08, 2025

Sedna, a leading intelligent communication platform for global trade and complex logistics, today announced its acquisition of Dataloy Systems, a trusted leader in Voyage Management Software. The move represents a major step forward in Sedna’s mission to unify communication, execution, and intelligence across the maritime ecosystem, with the inbox at its core.

Based in Bergen, Norway, Dataloy brings over two decades of experience delivering mission-critical maritime trading, operations, and distance data services to more than 500 customers worldwide. Their client base spans the global trade market and includes industry leaders such as Saga Welco, Golden Ocean, Stena Bulk and Klaveness. From chartering and voyage planning, cargo parcelling, settlement, emissions compliance, and P&L tracking, Dataloy has become foundational infrastructure for the global shipping industry.

Dataloy has invested over $20 million in rebuilding its platform from the ground up, launching a modern, cloud-native architecture with open APIs embedded at every layer and a responsive, intuitive interface across web and mobile. This next-generation platform has been live and fully operational across their customer base for more than a year, demonstrating strong performance and scalability, while contributing to steady market growth.

“Over the past year we have seen a shift in the market’s response to the Dataloy platform.  The rebuild means that Dataloy brings critical executional capabilities to Sedna,” said Bill Dobie, Founder and CEO of Sedna. “Most importantly, it closes the gap between communication and trading, enabling teams to work smarter, faster, and with full context at every step so they can make the best decisions possible.”

“This isn’t just a new chapter – it’s a continuation of everything we’ve built with our customers.” said Erik Fritz Loy, CEO of Dataloy Systems “Dataloy has grown by staying close to the industry and delivering innovations that truly reflect the way maritime professionals work. The market has moved fast, and while we’ve kept pace with innovation, joining forces with Sedna allows us to scale that momentum globally. We carry forward what we call the Dataloy Momentum: agile, open, and in constant evolution, now supercharged by a shared mission with Sedna to make maritime workflows more connected, intelligent and actionable.”

Dataloy’s team, platform, and roadmap will continue with full continuity. As part of the integration, special focus will be placed on transforming customer success, an area where Sedna has built a strong reputation. The combined company will accelerate delivering an increasingly scaled, proactive, and user-centric experience to Dataloy customers moving forward.

Importantly, Sedna remains committed to openness and interoperability. Customers who use other VMS platforms or in-house systems will continue to benefit from equal API-based integrations, with no additional fees or lock-in.

“This isn’t about limiting choice,” Dobie added. “It’s about creating more of it – giving customers flexibility, faster insights, the freedom to work the way they want and a clear vision of what’s possible within an open ecosystem. With Dataloy’s depth and Sedna’s intelligence, we’re unlocking what’s next for maritime: fully connected workflows, powered by agentic software that understands what needs to happen and helps make it so.”

This next chapter is made possible through the continued backing of global software investor Insight Partners, who has partnered with Sedna since first investing in the company in 2021. SAP’s IO Fund, an investor since 2019, once again continues its support alongside Insight in this chapter – a powerful combination that brings deep conviction, capital, and reach to fuel the combined company’s shared ambition.
