Marketing and Communication Consultant

Are you curious about what it’s like to work for a maritech company?

This week I caught up with our Senior Solution Consultant, Kjersti, to talk about how her role and what she’s looking for in her next team member.

Learn more about working with Kjersti as part of the Delivery Team.

About Kjersti

Kjersti Hartvedt is a Senior Solutions Consultant with an extensive shipping background from Gearbulk, Star Shipping and Grieg Star. She has been with Dataloy for almost 7 years. Like those in the rapidly changing commercial world, her experience has enabled her to understand how the latest technology and features in Dataloy VMS can be employed to achieve maritime operations objectives better.

Hey Kjersti, can you tell me a bit about how your role is structured and what you're responsible for in the business?

Kjersti: As a Senior Solution Consultant, I have a critical client-facing role that interprets and translates client requirements into a viable, scalable solution that helps our customers solve problems and also train the customers – keeping them abreast with product developments.

In addition to our Project and Implementation Manager, we are currently a group of 3 solution consultants in the Delivery Team at Dataloy. We are primarily responsible for determining the overall strategic, operational and technical scope of new business opportunities with customers and prospects: part business analyst, part technologist, part salesperson. We work closely with sales and implementation teams to understand strategic business issues and then craft and communicate solution strategies in line with customers’ business needs.

Is having a shipping background an advantage to this role?

Kjersti: It is a definite advantage to have shipping knowledge or shipping experience. As I said, the role is part business analyst, so having chartering or operations experience is a definite plus as the learning curve is shorter. You have a better understanding of customers´ needs and, therefore, can easily guide them on how to optimally and efficiently use the features of Dataloy VMS, given their business needs and challenges.

What traits are you looking for in your next team member?

Kjersti: Every team member is unique and brings their personality to the table. They all want to be a part of something big, and they’re always looking to streamline processes from defining value drivers and business/benefits cases, solutioning and implementing state-of-the-art, Dataloy solutions for our customers as platform enabler for business transformation.

I’m looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is judicious enough to self-motivate and manage their own tasks.

How would you measure success?

Kjersti: Success for me would be that we as a team are achieving what we want. As individuals, I want us all to feel like we are growing. That encompasses the Dataloy culture – we work as a team here. We celebrate the victories and accept defeats as a team.

What advice would you give to somebody who is thinking of applying for a role as a solutions consultant?

Kjersti: Everyone in our team is equal, and despite the length of experience each person has, we value inputs equally. We all have different perspectives, and those perspectives only enrich the team.

You should ask yourself what interests you about this role and why. Those discussions make for the most honest and robust interviews.

Applicants should be open and transparent and understand why they are applying to our specific company.

Before applying, I would advise you to consider what interests you, why you are drawn to this role, and what information you require from us to help you decide if this role is right for you.
